Exploring the role drawing has in preserving cultural heritage.
I had a wonderful time studying in Devine, Howest.
We had the pleasure of exploring the collections in The Abby Museum where each student chose an artefact to create an AR artwork, adding another dimension to the items story. The challenge was to create a concept that was sensitive to the cultural context of the item while bridging the gap between historical references and contemporary culture.
I chose an unusual clay animal head, and created a social commentary on modern society. The disassociating creature falls victim to doomscrolling while ignoring the chaos unfolding around them. The armies fighting at the base nod to the 1302 Battle of the Golden Spurs battle that shaped modern day Kortrijk.
The AR artworks can be explored in Abby museum using the Artivive viewing app as part of this years Erfgoeddag (Heritage Day). The theme this is years Ha Ha Humour so expect lots of fun in this exhibition!
